Welcome to my site. I’m a postdoctoral researcher, affiliated with the Oxford Uehiro Centre for Practical Ethics and OsloMet.
My research interests are at the intersection of ethics and economics. The focus of my post-doctoral work (funded by the Norwegian Research Council) is on ethical aspects of contagion, both in relation to infectious and non-communicable diseases. The project builds on my Ph.D. thesis in philosophy, where I examine our duties to participants in delicate market transactions.
My work has appeared or is forthcoming in the Oxford Handbook of Digital Ethics and journals such as Philosophical Studies, Journal of Medical Ethics, Journal of Applied Philosophy, American Journal of Bioethics, and Developing World Bioethics.
Before starting my Ph.D. in philosophy at the University of Oslo in 2017, I undertook a BA and MA in political science and worked as an analyst in the Norwegian Labour Party, a columnist and opinion page editor in Norway’s second-biggest newspaper, and an editor at an encyclopaedia.
I have also written, co-written, or edited four books, on euthanasia, global citizenship, social democracy, and power. My work is available at https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Aksel-Sterri and my Twitter handle is @AkselSterri. You can reach me at akselbst (at) gmail.com.
This is where I gather writings and other information that might be of interest. Most of it is in Norwegian. However, if that is not your thing, my academic papers will be available in English and I hope to make more writings accessible to more people in the future. Please have a look.
